Psychology Today Profile
Reality can sometimes bite, hard. I believe people can learn to bite back - and learn to be nourished. The difficulty is that we get stuck in patterns of relating, feeling, behaving, and thinking, to the point where we feel flawed, no matter how hard we resist. This struggle can lead us to feel alone with our difficulties, and out of strategies to overcome them. With a lifetime of accumulated coping strategies, some of which have become sources of stress rather than relief, this can further alienate us from others, and even ourselves.
Coming out of isolation can be both tremendously uncomfortable and profoundly liberating. Therapy is a space to explore what has been too uncertain, too elusive, and too painful to share with another person. I provide space to explore what comes up in the present, including what you carry from the past. The goal is to improve your abiIity to make choices and to make sense of the challenges you face. Together, we’ll try to meet your challenges with gentleness, your gentleness with boundaries, your boundaries with flexibility, your flexibility with seriousness, your seriousness with lightness, your lightness with darkness, your darkness with humour, your humour with tears, your tears with resilience, and your resilience with the inevitable next challenges.
I strive to grasp the complexity and intersections of your identities (age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, family history, class): how you relate to them, and how they shape your experience. I take a harm reduction approach to helping you experience more relief. Given the complexities of how our lives are organized, I see coping strategies as adaptations that make sense in their developmental context, though they may no longer be helpful.
I offer therapy for individuals over the age of 18. I have ongoing weekly availabilities on Mondays 10am-6pm, Thursdays 2-7pm, and Fridays 3-6pm. If my profile speaks to you, please do not hesitate to reach out and book an initial session for half ($40) of my regular fee. I recognize that the cost of psychotherapy can be a major barrier, so I strive to make it as financially accessible as I can. I look forward to hearing from you and offering my service.
