Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
BSc (Psych), MACP
I provide individual therapy both in person and online to adults and teens struggling with difficult emotions such as anxiety, depression, and stress. These difficult feelings may come up with regards to work, school, a big life transition, in social situations, or there may be no clear cause. Through my work as a therapist, I have found that no matter what the cause, there is an overarching theme when we struggle and suffer. Namely that our difficult thoughts and feelings can lead us to behave unlike the person we truly wish to be.
The main therapeutic approaches I use in my practice are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindful Self-Compassion. ACT teaches you skills to help ‘unhook’ yourself from difficult thoughts and feelings so that they do not have as much impact and influence over your behaviour. ACT has received empirical support for the treatment of depression, anxiety, and stress.
Quite often, when we suffer we are very quick to beat ourselves up, however if someone we loved was going through something similar we rush to provide emotional support. This is where self-compassion comes in. Research has shown that self-compassion is something that can be learned, and can increase resilience in the face of stress, leading to fewer negative emotions such as shame, depression, and anxiety in the long term.
I know taking the first steps to see a therapist can be anxiety provoking in itself. I would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Please feel free to reach out through email. I offer a free 20 min phone consultation to help you decide whether or not my approach is a good fit for your concerns.
